Crossing the Idea Chasm: Creating High Value Idea Portfolios

Author(s)

Anders Hemre

Abstract

The process of moving ideas from “mind to market” involves the creation of high value idea portfolios. Ideas are products. More specifically, they are products of the human mind. As such, they involve creativity, imagination and emotion as well as reason. The importance of managing current business often combines with organizational and human behaviour to create an internal “barrier to entry” for new ideas or a chasm that makes it difficult for ideas to mature into new product or service concepts. Crossing the idea chasm in a structured way will ensure that all ideas are given a fair chance and will result in a portfolio of rich ideas rated by value and ready to be implemented, deferred or dismissed according to the business priorities of the enterprise.
